Here is some fascinating new research that can help parents of the math-phobic: According to a new study published in The Journal of Neuroscience, the benefits of one-on-one tutoring for just three sessions a week lead to marked improvements, and not just in kids’ ability to successful complete math problems.
The truly fascinating part of the research — which involved testing third grade students for an eight-week period — was the impact of the tutoring on kids’ math anxiety. It turns out that the one-on-one time not only improved kids’ knowledge and fluency with dealing with a broad range of math problems, but it lowered their anxiety considerably.
