“Saints & Strangers: Surviving Plymouth” is an interactive game based on the similarly-titled two-night movie event airing on National Geographic. Saints & Strangers documents the arrival of the early pilgrims on Plymouth Rock and their struggle for survival. Their choices determined their fate and became their legacy. Would you have made the same choices? Can you survive Plymouth Rock?
Fasten your seat belts folks, this game is one heck of a ride!
At the beginning of Saints and Strangers, you are given one task to complete: survive Plymouth Rock. Those who have played the hit game “The Oregon Trail” will be familiar with the decision-based gameplay, where each choice opens up a new pandora’s box that leads you further along the path of destruction or salvation.
The predictability of many online role-playing games is absent from Saints and Strangers — there truly are many tough choices to make and sometimes you have to pick the lesser of two evils. Often not enough information is available to really make an informed choice, forcing players to go with their gut!
In between advancing the main storyline, players must manage their colony, making tradeoffs like sacrificing supplies for diplomacy. Get too low in any one area and you risk losing the entire colony. Along the way players get to make decisions playing as the real-life heroes of the colony like William Bradford, Edward Winslow and John Carver.
The quests help to reveal the history behind how the early pilgrims lived day-to-day and the close relationships the early Europeans had with Native American tribes. At the end of the game, players can go back and compare the choices they made with the choices the actual pilgrims made when they originally faced each situation.
If you are looking for an insanely fun way to expose your kids or students to the history of the pilgrims, this is the perfect game for you!
