Whether you’ve been to New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art or not, you’ve probably heard of it: It’s the largest art museum in the country and one of the most visited museums in all of the world with more than 2 million works of art spanning 5,000 years. Can’t go there in person? A just-launched website, #MetKids, lets your kids explore the expansive museum on a virtual field trip, without booking airfare.
Targeted to kids 7-12, the beautifully created site is spot-on in its design. It’s easy to navigate and perfectly captures that feeling of being on an adventure. Kids can explore The Met via an interactive map and watch behind-the-scenes videos that are narrated by kids. A great time machine feature lets visitors select a place and era as they discover art, relics and facts. And if you find yourself inspired by it all, #MetKids also features some great DIY at-home projects for budding artists, photographers and sculptors.
