Meditation can sometimes be a scary word for people. It sounds intense and hard to do — like the goal of it is to “silence” every thought in your head for a certain period of time.
The fact is, that couldn’t be further from the end goal of any good medication program. The goal is simply to increase focus, to understand and better to relate to thoughts and emotions, and to put the whole thing into perspective.
Wellbeyond Meditation for Kids has seven basic meditations for kids, each with its own separate goal. Here are a few sections you will find in the app:
The first mediation on the app is called Centering. Centering is a 3-minute introduction to two really important techniques for meditation: visualization and focusing on the breathe.
The second mediation is 7 minutes. This meditation is called “Kindness” and is designed to develop empathy and emotional awareness. The more you understand your own emotions, the more you will be able to relate to others.
The Focus section helps to teach kids about being mindful of whatever task they’re doing. The age-old technique for teaching this is focusing on the breathe without changing it or influencing it in any way — without “taking over.” If you’ve ever tried to do this, it’s extremely hard in the beginning, and yet there may be no better way to develop focus and attentiveness.
The sleep section is exactly what it sounds like. Kids will feel relaxed and at ease after doing this meditation (so will adults if they get in on the action). This is a “bonus” section, which requires parents to signup with their email to get the extra session.
This app is extremely simple in its design, which is what makes it such a perfect app to introduce simple, mindful meditation to your kids.
