Here’s a completely free (and amazingly cool!) website designed to help improve writing skills and develop a passion for the written word. Write the World’s online writing club is a guided interactive program that helps high school students flex their writing muscles within a community that not only connects writers with one another, but also with teachers who can review their work as well.
Whether you’re interested in writing fiction, memoirs, poetry, sports journalism or more, Write the World provides a platform to get inspiration (via an amazing variety of updated writing prompts), share work, and give and receive feedback. Writers are empowered to develop their voices, refine their editing skills, and publish on an international platform. Enter competitions and challenges for the chance to receive feedback from authors, writing teachers, and other experts in the field.
For younger writers, two of our favorite writing prompt resources are Storybird, which reverses the typical write-then-illustrate steps of story telling by offering a great variety of original artwork as a starting point for inspiration, and Story Starters, where kids “spin a wheel” to generate fun and unexpected “who, what, where” prompts.
